The Elqui Valley, nestled in the heart of the Coquimbo region in Chile, is far more than just a tourist destination; it’s a place where nature and magic come together. It is in this vibrant setting that Paulina, a passionate agronomist, along with her family, founded Prana Fruit. They started by cultivating organic blueberries, becoming one of Chile’s earliest exporters of this product to the United States. However, as the market evolved and international competition grew, prices began to decline. “We had no choice but to reinvent ourselves,” Paulina recalls.

That’s when the family decided to explore new possibilities, creating value-added blueberry-based products that leveraged their superfood properties. Under Paulina’s leadership, Prana Fruit has developed blueberry beverages, blueberry powder, and one of their star products: blueberry leaf powder.

“Over the years we’ve been growing blueberries, the women of the Elqui Valley—mothers and grandmothers—would come to our fields asking for blueberry leaves, which were often discarded during the export process. They told us how these leaves help manage diabetes by lowering blood sugar levels and support weight loss diets by curbing appetite and regulating digestion,” Paulina explains. Inspired by this local tradition, backed by scientific research, and motivated by her own consumption experience, she began experimenting with the leaves, known for their antioxidant properties, and developed pulverized blueberry leaves into a unique product.

“Our production process is natural and simple: we dehydrate the fruit and leaves of the blueberry plant using artisanal methods combined with modern technologies, making the most of the abundant solar energy in the Elqui Valley. We dry them slowly and in the shade to ensure the preservation of antioxidants,” Paulina adds.

Blueberry leaf powder has an herbal flavor, reminiscent of matcha, with delicate lemony notes. It’s perfect to enjoy as an infusion or as an antioxidant-rich supplement in your favorite recipes.
